Fort Myers, Fla. – The dominant personalities on the best Twins teams of the past 30 years have been magnetic center fielders whose voices provided the soundtrack for raucous clubhouses.

Mauer is a leader? Now that's funny!

tanner34Feb. 21, 1411:41 PM

Joe Mauer is not a leader at all...and trying to follow Glen Perkins as a leader is tough're trying to follow Glen Perkins as a leader...74 and best...

Don't worry, the boys are getting after it down there in fort Myers. Before you know it memorial day will be upon us, the snow will begin melting, and the twins will be 12 games back in the central.

Something tells me that the near-future leader of this club is lurking in the minors.

Asking for a player and leader like Puckett is like the Chicago Bulls saying they could use a Michael Jordan type guy again. KPuckett was a rarity and not easily replaced. Mauer doesn't have that type personality. This might be a tough year for him getting any pitches to hit. The lineup stinks.

Winning allows leadership to emerge; losing stifles anyone trying to lead. It's just about that simple.

The Twins will never admit it but they did not get nearly what they expected from Joe Mauer. This guy couldn't lead a group of first graders across the street. No fire in the belly.

This team is a direct reflection of Mauer's "leadership". No fire in the belly. Just an oh well kind of attitude.

The Twins problems is apparent. They spent way too much money re-signing Joe Mauer and did not have enough money left to keep their other top players (Cuddy,et al) or to sign quality free agents. That's the story.

I agree - when Perkins says "We just weren't good enough," that's the awful truth. But it seems to me a 'leader' wouldn't be the guy to wait until success finally finds the team again, he'd be the guy who finally got sick enough of losing that he'd begin to try leading this team out of the funk they're in and toward that winning time. Having said that, though, they've been bad enough, long enough, you're practically asking someone to perform a Herculean task.
