If you think the municipal bond business only gets exciting when a big issue goes into default, you need to know about the People’s Stadium bonds.

Will my Minnesota tax return be colored purple when they use my tax dollars to pay off these bonds?

Although I don't care for the funding of the stadium and the idea of having e-pulltabs as the source of revenue for the bonds, this is a great idea by a great company.

How about a depiction of an average middle-class Minnesota taxpayer having his or her back pocket vacumed by Zygi Wilf, Governor Dayton, former Minneapolis Mayor Rybak, Ted Mondale and State Senator Julie Rosen?

Umm…smokers and suite holders are paying back the state-issued bonds. So if you are a smoking suite-holder, dvsdan123, you really have something to be upset about. Otherwise, not so much.

Dear Drudgemonkey, Part of the financing is coming from a sales tax applied to purchases in downtown Minneapolis. The Vikings stadium is being paid for at the expense of taxpayers. Also, money raised from the cigarette tax could have been used for tax relief, improved roads, the hiring of more teachers, better snow plowing, more police and firefighters, etc.

Part of the municipal financing, not the bond financing. So that really doesn't have anything to do with a story about the bond sale, does it?

All of your whining is a waste of energy people. In case you havent noticed the new stadium is being built so just shut up already. My hat is off to the forward thinking civic leaders.
