US warship deployed in Black Sea near Sochi Olympics runs aground, remains in Turkish port

WASHINGTON — One of two U.S. warships dispatched to the Black Sea before the Sochi Winter Olympics remains in a Turkish port after running aground last week, the Navy said Wednesday.

Why did this accident happen? Low water level, incomplete/incorrect depth charts, electronic depth equipment failure......?

bigtmn: Valid points raised. Also the Navy has stated more actions will occur closer to land. THAT means we need better tide charts and bottom charts for both allies and NOT allies. What currents exist at what time of year?? All this info has traditionally been viewed as spying by nations.......just saying we need it.
