NY's Schumer recuses from review of $45B Comcast-Time Warner deal; brother a lead lawyer

ALBANY, N.Y. — U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer said Tuesday he is recusing himself from any role Congress plays in Comcast Corp.'s planned acquisition of rival Time Warner Cable Inc. after learning his brother was one of the lead lawyers behind the $45 billion deal.

My guess is that Schumer has his hand in the pocket of the cable industry (just like every other politician) and is using this as a convenient excuse not to have to rule against them. The cable industry and it's current regional monopolys are a glaring example of how our political process is completely broken. Legislators no longer represent us but are rather partial to the highest bidder. The cable industry has had more than enough time to write down it's infrastructure. The cable lines (much like the long distance lines in the 1980's) should be made open to all competing businesses who offer the best product at the lowest price.

Sen. Schumer has no reason to recuse himself from this or any other Senate action. Sen. Schumer will always support the Government over the individual and the friends of the Government over other commercial interests.
