Mike Stepovich, former Alaska territorial governor, dies at age 94

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A man who lobbied congressional members for Alaska statehood and served as one of the state's last territorial governors has died.

Mike Stepovich was Alaska's youngest Governor at age 38. Seems like everyone in Alaska knew one of his kids(if not him) and this family was loved by everyone. Stepovich said that being Governor of such a small state was the easiest job any person could have--he will be remembered as being smart and fair and being able to get things done because he didn't care if you were a Republican or a Democrat, his job was to get everyone acting like a team and getting things accomplished. It must have made him (and other political leaders) sad to see how ugly and feisty politics in Alaska became within the past few years.
