Oliver, a four-legged workhorse among the ranks of the Minneapolis police’s mounted patrol, is hoofing it into retirement and a life of leisure on a Stearns County farm.

Congratulations to you Oliver on your retirement. Job well done! You deserve it. Enjoy the peace and serenity of days to come. The horses and patrolmen of the mounted patrol have always done an incredible job. Always a pleasure to see them in the downtown area.

Mounted patrols have been very effective at crowd control. Bar Closing Time in Mpls seems like a great time and place for mounted patrol.

Too funny! When a fireman or policeman retires, nary a word about the good things things they had done in their careers. But a service horse or dog! I am surprised the city council, Police Commissioner and the Mayor were not there for a fond and teary farewell and a bucket of oats....
