Church disobedience in support of gay marriage widens rift in United Methodist church

NEW YORK — The dispute among United Methodists over recognition of same-sex couples has lapsed into a doctrinal donnybrook, pitting clergy who are presiding at gay weddings in defiance of church law against proponents of traditional marriage who are trying to stop them.

If Christian churches followed the teachings of Jesus there would not be a dispute, the leaders of the church would not preside over marriages involving gay couples.

"When people choose to break the covenant that holds us together..." The problem is that the covenant ISN'T holding us together. If other Methodists want to be obedient to God and follow Christ's teachings, then they would do MUCH better to show LOVE and let the historical biases fall by the wayside. The Bible is a guide for love OVER law, because love is the first law. The Bible is not a weapon in which to hurt people who are different.
