With all of the controversy among the media regarding Christian Ponder’s ability to do the job as Vikings quarterback, new offensive coordinator Norv Turner was asked his opinion of the 2011 first-round draft pick.

The first Vikings game of 2014 that Ponder is starting will be the last one I watch.

Doubt it, Turner already said accuracy is the most important physical trait of a QB.

MAYBE TURNER is not as smart as I thought he was he did take a job in CLEVELAND.THE thought he would even give PONDER a chance makes me wonder.

ddellwoFeb. 8, 14 9:37 PM

As much as I shudder the thought, Turner has no choice but to at least give lip-service to the possibility of Ponder being behind center next season -- he's the only quarterback we have under contract for 2014.

Bet Ponder is the starter next year, Norv wants to try and prove he's the best OC ever.. He'll do so in my opinion if he gets Ponder to look like a legit QB

The t wolves are a joke, and now they are going to lose their top player in another year and at the same time are giving top picks away for nothing and not developing the young talent. This team will be mediocre for another year and then hit bottom again, there is no plan in place or people to develope it.Thank god the gophers did not sign Flip.

You never know how a coach can change a player, but at this point Ponder has been exiled to the point of no return from Vikings fans. I just don't see it ever working out for him here.

At this point, Turner has to hold his tongue somewhat and talk positively about his players. Doesn't mean a thing.....except to Sid.

deepsixFeb. 8, 14 9:53 PM

Sid, give it up on Ponder. Turner's offense is built around the deep ball, which Ponder doesn't have the arm strength for. As for the Wolves, it wasn't very long ago that Flip and Taylor said the record was right where they thought it would be, but the fans have said for two month's that this team is going nowhere.

I agree with ddellwo that Turner has no choice right now. Any OTA's right now and Ponder is all they have. I originally supported the Ponder pick and still don't think he had the benefit of good coaching but he does not fit Turner's mold of success but then again maybe that is what Turner was alluding to when he referenced Brad Johnson. I would not be surprised if Ponder is a backup because his salary is guaranteed, but I would be surprised if he is the opening day starter.
