Well for starters, we learned that lead bullets fragmetn ang go beyonnd the entry site. We also learned that butchers weren't entirely the problem. What we need to do is move away from lead ammunition. This will create some big problems for shotgun (slug) hunters and bird hunters. The anti-lead crowd will use this to ban all lead, which is probably going to happen. But Federal Ammunition and the NRA will spend a lot of money fighting it. (A side note, I use Federal ammo, hunt regularly, and think Wayne LaPierre is a steaming pile of poo.) I will use copper ammo, and switch to lead for everything in the shotgun. It took a while to get used to steel when that happened. I blame my shooting and not the shot when I miss.

What about if I'm not donating my deer? I don't want to eat lead either- what can I do to prevent it? My deer isn't going to be X-rayed after processing. Should use certain ammo or a certain caliber gun? Is there a difference between using a high-velocity rifle and a slug gun? This article provides no information to address my concerns whatsoever. I guess I'll have to try a little harder to get my buck bow hunting this year.

I, like 10's of thousands of other Minnesotans have been eating venison for years. You have a better chance of being struck by lightning than getting ill from lead tainted deer meat.
