TOWN OF BELOIT, Wis. — A woman who pretended to be pregnant stole her half-sister's newborn boy from a Wisconsin home and left him in a storage crate outside an Iowa gas station in frigid temperatures as police closed in, according to court documents filed Friday.

How incredibly lucky. How did they know that the child was on his way to Iowa.

Unbelievable. This could have easily turned terribly tragic. Hopefully the surveillance video turns something up.

Something is very much missing from this story. Earlier this morning it was reported down here that a "person of interest" in this case had been arrested in this same town. A couple hours later the news broke they had found the baby. West Branch is such a small town this is more than a coincidence.

There are details missing in this story that are contained in various stories from Iowa media outlets. In short, the mother's step sister was picked up on an unrelated warrant in Iowa. During the stop, they noticed that there were baby items in her car, but no sign of the infant. This lead police to deem her a person of interest in the case, and I have to assume the gas station where the infant was found was somewhat close to where the police picked up the suspect. The fact that there was no sign of forced entry at the residence where the baby was found also points to the step sister being a prime suspect, as she had stayed in the house the night before on her way back to Colorado.

You mean to tell me that the only reason this child was found was because they found stuff in her car, she was related and the baby was gone. This is a freaking miracle.

I am happy for this world. A good ending to a very scary situation.
