Souhan: Turner knows winning QBs don't always fit usual mold

New Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner either will be asked to coax a career performance out of a less-than-heralded veteran, or rush a rookie into action, or both.

The problem I have with this draft class at QB is I don't know if any of these guys are worthy of the 8th pick in round one. When the Vikes have drafted QB's #1 they have always had a veteran in place Kramer(Tark), Culpeper(Cunningham/George) Ponder(McNabb) and the rookie was not expected to start right away. It puts a lot of pressure on the Vikes and the QB they choose when he has to start right away. I definitely would not move up in the draft because there is no Luck in this draft. Personally I would like to see them draft Jimmie Garoppolo of East Carolina but he would be a Ponderish reach at 8 and I am not sure he will be around in round 2. Exciting time to be a Vike fan but also quite scary because it looks a lot like the Ponder draft all over again.

We can't wring our hands with a QB selection on this draft. What we have going for us is a good head coach with a top notch Offensive Coordinator. Let's let Turner earn his bucks. Thank God it's not "Chilly" making the call.

I like the idea of going with a quarterback who at least looks like he has the skill set of a Russell Wilson with success in college to back that. I like Tajh Boyd.

Here is all anyone should need to know about Johnny Manziel: Rather than celebrate the Aggie's bowl game victory with his teammates, he flew to Miami so he could party and be seen with Drake. He's not interested in being a QB or a teammate, he wants to be a celebrity.

Gadfly I agree completely. Manziel could be the next Vince Young except coming from a privileged family. I don't see a bonefide top 10 QB in this draft. Maybe not even a top 20. If that's the case then draft best available defensive players. The position doesn't matter because there are needs everywhere.

I am very intrigued by the direction of this team. (Keyword: intrigued) I admit I don't care for Spielman (He has made a couple decent moves, but some glaring, really really bad ones too) The key to all of this going forward is Zimmer. If he can be as good as I think he can...it could turn around the franchise. Draft for NEED, build your team...we have 2 seasons outdoors. My expectations is to have a VERY SOLID, CONTENDING TEAM game 1 at the new stadium. I'm afraid we're not done watching a QB develop (AGAIN!)...hopefully, with a little luck (Which MN teams typically doesn't have)it will be much more fun & rewarding to watch. Here's to wishful thinking. Go Vikes

Manziel will be a star. He should go number 1. He wants to win and is a great teammate. I hope the Vikes draft him.

Please dispense with the accolades for the vikes current O-line. If they were as good as everyone constantly indicates, the team wouldn't be in the trouble it is now. Johnson needs to be replaced, both tackles took a step back this year, the center battled injuries much of the year, which leaves the other guard. Quick--name him. If the vikes are too succeed with a qb who can't walk in the door equipped to deal with a less than stellar line, they need to focus on building up the o line sooner rather than later.

I think the Vikes hit a HOME RUN with this group of coaches. And looking from Seattle's performance and comparing the changes that occurred with respect to coaching changes AND two hundred or so personnel changes Carroll procured, I think the sky is the limit for the new outlook in Minnesota. Norv will winnow the chaff out with respect to Cassel/Freeman/and ugh Ponder....maybe we have the "Wilson" on board already. Ponder doesn't seem to have the on field brains that Wilson has shown. And Minn. has some good pieces on board and so Norv and the head coach will pick and choose retaining the hidden gold therein. My adoptive Seahawks kicked the holy hallelujah out of the laughable egotists in Denver and it seems reasonable with the new leadership in Vikingland now it will be the Vikings turn to hoist the Lombardi trophy hopefully by the time they break in the new stadium. Go Vikings.

Turner has a fantastic offensive mind and hopefully he'll handpick the next Vikes qb in the draft.
