Red Wing considers rededicating Columbus Day

The Red Wing City Council considers changing October holiday to First Peoples’ Day.

If Red Wing insists on change, the most adult thing to do with this half-cocked holiday is dispense with it altogether, as other states have done.

Good for Red Wing and good for us! Columbus was allegedly the first European to set foot in what we now call the US but the First People were here long before. About time we celebrated them!

I just want to know how much time and money will be spent on this. I am sure this act will change the way Columbus conducted his life....Oh wait. Move on and don't sweat the small stuff. It is not like we all have Columbus shrines in our homes or at our desks. If you want to make a real impact, make sure your schools address the atrocities Columbus was responsible for so they can educate others.

Instead of focusing on what a person did in his time and era. Which was what they did back then because they thought they had right to. Try to focus on how your own people are treated in this time. See how you will be thought of in hundred plus years. Basically do your job of running a city. Instead of grandstanding.
