The old, dark and funky 400 Bar on Minneapolis’ West Bank will be resurrected as a splashy Mall of America complex that will include a live-music venue, restaurant and music museum.

So it will be a completely different venue entirely but use the 400 Bar's name. But it'll be totally different from the 400 Bar. Go it.

So long as Tom Sullivan has something to do with it I say go for it, he's the biggest local music fan I have ever met.

This is unbelievably stupid and I hope the Sullivans aren't personally invested in this because it's almost certainly a failure.

Let's admit this is for middle-age suburban folks to hangout at and pretend they are still hip as they aren't willing to visit a dive bar in a diverse city neighborhood. Think West End crowd now now at the MOA. Nothing wrong with that as it will probably make a lot of money.

The image of one my better nights at the 400 - watching Fu Manchu in a smokey haze as some unknown woman decided to grind against my thigh for reasons unknown - doesn't quite fit in with the family-friendly side of the MOA.

Some of the best times and best shows @ 400Bar. I wish they weren't using the name. I don't think the new place will be bad and I may go there and enjoy myself but it's just not going to be the 400.

The is the equivelent of Creedence Clearwater Revisted...what a joke. In no way reflects what the 400 bar was... Might as well jsut callit Gators, Hooters, Fat Tuesday's or any of the other failed MOM bars..

Better to reopen at the Mall than not at all, I suppose. But the quote that it will be "family friendly" seems a bit incongruous with a live music venue, unless they're only planning to host acts like the Fresh Beats and such.

Where was everyone who hates this when the original needed the customers to stay open?

I try hard not to go to the Mall and unfortunately this won't make me change. I did/would however have gone anywhere else in Mpls to go to the 400 bar, as I did when it was open. I wish these Southwest alums wouldn't have made this choice.
