Report: Nurses didn't record order to watch patient later found dead in hospital stairwell

SAN FRANCISCO — Nurses at a San Francisco hospital "inadvertently discontinued" a doctor's orders to have a staff member maintain a constant watch on a patient who ended up leaving her room and was found dead in a locked emergency stairwell 17 days later, California public health inspectors found.

So NOBODY used that stairway for any reason for 17 days? That sounds unbelievable. And the sheriff's deputies sound like Barney Fifes or the Keystone Kops. Sounds like this poor woman died alone in a locked stairway from dehydration.
