so the Gophs lose the shootout to MSU tonight. New hockey fan here. one shootout goal by MSU disallowed because the Gopher goalie kicked the goal off of its pegs before the puck crossed the line. By that rule every goalie should do the same when a breakaway happens against him. That's an assinine rule. So the if the defense moves the goal....the offense can't score. Hell I'd do that on every close play. This is why hockey doesn't get more fans....just crazy arcane rules that no one understands.

Every team that's coming to MN is bringing their 'A' game. You're the #1 team in the country. You're the target and you have 'the program' when it comes to college hockey. Michigan State has you on the ropes now twice this season. Step it up Lucia.

Lucia is so inspiring to his players. Watch, we might not win the Big Ten and also watch the playoff swoon. All the talent the coach has and just can't win big(ncaa championship), since the first two years. Big Problem!!!

Why does the defense look so disorganized all of a sudden? Last couple of games the Gophers have been SLOPPY in their defensive zone. Better tighten that up. Wilcox cant always be expected to bail them out.

JR2010 - If you had been paying attention, you would have known that Ben Marshall and Michael Brodzinski were out of the lineup, and that Jake Parenteau is just coming back after being out for nearly two months with a broken leg. Without them, the Gophers have just four healthy defensemen. Have you ever thought of how challenging it would be for four players to cover 60 minutes of ice time? Or maybe you have some ideas as to how they can "tighten" things up?

This is a real problem with Lucia. Every year he has talent, and the season starts out great. But then....they regress. They have been playing their worst hockey of the year the past few weekends. Yes, they may be winning, but winning ugly. You would think with a young team Lucia would have the opportunity to improve these players. But year in and year out, he does not get the most of his talent. There is a reason professional teams pull their kids out of his program.

Outshot again last night by a horrible team. Hey Don...Where is the progress??? Some of you posters act as if it is a surprise that this team is not improving or is regressing. This is Don Lucia's MO for the past few (many) years. He has great talent. They start out hot. They stagnate while other teams progress...and then you lost to Holy Cross. A sign of a good coach is what they do will the talent they have and the progression they make. Right now if the Gophers were playing in the NCAA tourney, I wouldn't be surprised to see another Holy Cross type loss. And one thing is for sure, Lucia will never be asked to coach the US World Junior team again. What a flop that was.

In what way can you say this team has regressed? They've lost TWO games in four months!!! The special teams performance has stepped up dramatically since the holiday break, Wilcox continues to excel and the quality of play from four lines game after game is well above average. Hard to know what some of you expect but the Gophs play an outstanding brand of hockey and are great to watch.

Where is our leadership on defense? Holl has not improved since he was a freshman and plays soft, turns over the puck and gets caught out of position, Marshall and Reilly seem to want to be forwards, Parenteau is coming off injury and is probably our best stay at home defenseman. Those are the returning defenseman that should be leading the blue line corp. Guentzel needs to do a much better job with this group.

Blown opportunity by Gophers. Chance for 6 points this weekend while 2nd and 3rd place team play each other. Could have put a strangle-hold on Big Ten....I thought this was a very important weekend for Gophers. Apparently Lucia and the team didn't think so.
