Every time we played against Zach Parise, there has been a work ethic, a never quit, a determination, an abrasiveness about a hard-to-play-against type of player — and it’s every time,” he said. “Regardless of the score, regardless of the situation Apparently everyone but Mgala can see the value of Parise.

Edutch, I see the value of Parise. $12MM for an elite grinder, who bangs goals in from 1-2 feet from the blue line, which requires the work of others, is way, way too much. But if you think he is, then that is fine. You should expect him to provide 1.6x the production of Mikko, the next highest paid WIld forward. I do. That extra $5MM because he is from Minnesota does nothing for me. Again, for $12MM with Suter, you got the league leader in min per game, Norris Trophy finalist, and a first team all-NHL player. If Parise can't do it alone, or its the fault of others that he can't have $12MM offensive production, then he is not as good as you think he is.

Russo, are you going to put out an article on Captain Finland if Mikko is named to that position? If not, could you let the readers know why? Thank you.

Give me a break bias, you have to look at your own credibility if you think Parise is of the same status as an Ovechkin, Crosby, Stamkos, Malikin, and many, many others. He is not even the best player on the Wild.

There's more to being a TEAM captain then just being the best player!!

edutchboyFeb. 1, 14 9:51 AM

What is his cap hit...that is all that matters.

Its not convenient that I am recognizing that Koivou and Parise don't work when their in the line up together and I have my doubts that they ever will. Maybe 2 games at most and back to normal.

klayton6Feb. 1, 14 1:53 PM

mgla, if Parise isn't the best forward on the team then who is? Suter is the best Defenseman. Look what Parise has done without having Koivu on the same line with him. Pominville and Granlund compliment Parise better. They skate better, pass better and are a threat as a finisher which Koivu isn't. Also, Parise isn't a goal scorer like Crosby, Malkiun and Stamkos but they don't play Defense like Parise either. Also, nobody wants to read an article of Koivu being selected as the Captain of Finland and every hockey website has an article on Parise being selected as the US Captain. This isn't a homer take.
