Wolves rookie Dieng's education will be put to the test

Late in the second quarter of the Timberwolves’ victory at Chicago on Monday, rookie center Gorgui Dieng was called for a foul and, a few seconds later, missed a shot. Quickly, Ronny Turiaf was up and was put back in the game by Rick Adelman.

What about giving another rookie his chance at an "education?" Adelman is stubborn by not playing rookies and favoring veterans over them. If someone can contribute and play ball, then let them play; regardless if they are a rookie or a veteran. Shabaaz should be given a chance to play because the vets off the bench cannot score, nor are they good shooters. The lack of scoring off the bench has hurt this team, not to mention numerous other issues. Adelman should have retired years ago. He was a good coach at one time in the past, but not in the present. Many other teams have proven that if a rookie is given a chance, that they can perform. Case in point; Utah Jazz point guard Trey Burke. He's twice the guard that Ricky Rubio is and he can play ball, regardless of the fact that he's a rookie. How can a player grow when he sits on the bench? Wake up Minnesota fans, this team is going nowhere with it's current roster and coach. They will finish the season around .500 and miss the playoffs once again. Sorry, but both you and I know that is inevitable.

They will win just enough to forfeit their first round pick next year (top 13 protected), and still not make the playoffs. But that's OK, because Adelman wouldn't play him anyway. It's funny. In years past, Wolves rookies ALWAYS played. Sure those teams stunk, but it's not like our bench is teeming with talent since they gave Williams away. Bud is a career journeyman that averages less than 10 points a game, and has missed 130 out of 164 games since we acquired him. He's shooting 32% this year. That will improve to over 43% when he gets his game back. But why force him into games at this level when he clearly needs more time and conditioning? Why not give Shabazz his minutes? Why does Rick hate playing Shabazz so much, even during blowout games? It's mind boggling. Get the rooks out there, Rick. Frazier didn't play rookies either, and look where that got him. Just another year of not even remotely having a ROY caliber player on our team. Thanks Flip Kahnders. Thanks, Rigid Rick. Go Wolves!
