Turner likes to go deep in the passing game at times. Musgrave didn't do much of that. Turner will want a strong arm for his QB if the Vikes go to the draft. I like Tajh Boyd in the 2nd round. He's been good with the accurate deep ball in college. He also has a great all round game. The only knock on Boyd is the same one on Manziel. They're both 6'1"in height.

(bruisedup)I agree with you that being 6'1' is a handicap for QB nowadays. As for Boyd, one can hardly say that he compensated with a stellar performance at Senior bowl. Ditto for Garoppollo (6'2'), Logan Thomas (6'6') or David Carr (6'3'). In fact, the one surprise was an unknown chap named David Fales (6'3')from San Jose State. He had a 25-30 yd TD plus a long 45-50 completion later on. In truth, Boyd, for one, was closer to awful.

If you get HOFer like Troy Aikman as the QB Darren Sproles to catch passes out of Backfield.Norv may be able to have some success. He almost got Rivers Killed in San Diego. This year with new coaches Rivers an All-Pro again.

My only knock on Boyd is that there are 10 other QB's in the draft that are ranked higher by the experts than him. He would be a great QB to take in the 5th or 6th round as a flier. In fact, Ponder draft grade/score in 2011 is higher than Boyd's.

Cleveland's offense was worse than the Vikings offense in terms of total yards!

Brocklander1- Norv Turner's offense produced the #1 WR in whole NFL in terms of receiving yards with the likes of using scrubs like Weeden, Campbell and Hoyer. And let's add in ZERO running game! So you believe Musgrave is better than Turner as a coordinator? You'd have a hard time convincing most people of this. Norv did an amazing job last year with that poor Cleveland team.

6'1" is a handicap in today's NFL? Tell that to this Sunday's Super Bowl starting QB Russel WIlson (5'11"). Maybe he'll excuse himself from the game. Tell that to Super Bowl winning QB Drew Brees (6'0") Tell that to Mike Vick (6'0") Christian Ponder is 6'2". If over 6'1" is your criteria, Vikes are set at QB for years. I think you can have success in the NFL if your under 6'5". Fran Tarkenton, Sonny Jurgenson, Pat Haden, Len Dawson,Joe Theisman, Doug Flutie all under 6'0". They all did fine. Too short 6'1" QB's include Jeff Garcia, Mark Brunell, Bart Starr, Unitas, Jim McMahon, Bob Greise,John Hadle to name a few. Didn't seem to affect their playing careers. Manzeil is a playmaker. I have little doubt that will continue at the NFL level.

Turner will help this offense. Hopefully, the Vikings brass will seek his input on the next QB. Vikings passed on both Russel Wilson AND Nick Foles in the 2012 draft to pick Josh Robinson. Why? Because they were "set" at QB with Ponder. Moves like that kill teams.

jbav8torJan. 29, 14 5:43 PM

In the Vikings defense,Nick Foles did not do much in college at Arizona. The Vikings, like many other teams, thought Wilson was too short.

The reason, that 6'1 QBs have a handicap in today's NFL is because the defensive linemen are now huge and deflect passes. Brees is the exception at 6. He is one of the most accurate QB and peddles back so far and so fast that defensive linemen can't reach him. Russel Wilson has thoroughly studied and copied Brees' technique (he admits to reading his book over and over) plus he runs away fast and is great at passing on the run. These two guys are exceptions. The old group of Flutie, Tarkenton, Theisman, Dawson and co, one has to consider, played against much shorter defensive men.
