Minnesota Dance Theatre’s entire board steps down

In a surprise announcement on Tuesday, the entire Minnesota Dance Theatre board resigned, saying “it is no longer able to serve the needs of the organization going forward.”

What a shame! It has been no secret among dancers and teachers that MDT has had problems for years in artistic philosophy between the board and artistic staff. MDT has trained many fine dancers with the dedicated faculty, some who had been there for decades.

Over the last decade or so, the company has cycled through executive directors, dancers, and artistic and support staff quite quickly (four executive directors listed on 2010-2012 tax returns). Surprised to see the board take this action now, especially given that a substantial number of board members have children who performed in the 2013 Nutcracker.
