Minneapolis writer Kate DiCamillo won the John Newbery Medal on Monday for her book “Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures,” the second time in 10 years that she has captured the most prestigious award in children’s literature.

Actually, Cronn-Mills tied to win the Stonewall Award with “Fat Angie,” written by e. E. Charlton-Trujillo. This is different from being an honor book.

It is great that Kate gets the recognition that she deserves from all levels of readers. Reading one of her books is like taking a class on writing a book for kids and for your own family.
