Sunday Q&A: Twins' Pelfrey feels normal with surgery in the past

The Twins liked enough of what they saw in pitcher Mike Pelfrey in 2013 to give him a two-year contract in the offseason. On Friday, he chatted with the Star Tribune’s Michael Rand:

The one thing I hate with all this positive talk is that, like other years, I get my expectations raised and then a month or two into the season, reality strikes. I hope the Pelfrey, Sano, Kubel, etc. positiveness becomes real, because we've had a lot of disappointment these past three years.

Hard-hitting stuff. Guess it's OK for online, but it was also in the print edition.

Lets hope he makes drastic improvement and is average. We signed Ricky Nolasco for the same money Matt Garza signed for. This is an improvement from last year but still way below a team hoping to contend.

This team has no intention of being competitive. The Twins idea of success is a healthy profit. Everything else is secondary.

That last Q and A was pretty funny. Extremely unlikely that these Twins can compete. The 1982 thorough 1986 Twins couldn't compete either. Neither could the 1999-2000 teams. I will watch them to see how Arcia, Dozier, Sano, Gibson and Meyer progress. I don't have high expectations for them this year. Just to be better than last year and then better again next year.
