Mormon church issues sweeping defense of Utah liquor laws ahead of legislative session

SALT LAKE CITY — The Mormon church has issued a sweeping defense of Utah's famously strict liquor laws, drawing a line against tourism, restaurant and bar industry advocates who have helped ease alcohol regulations in recent years.

I remember a joke that was going around during the 1960 election, saying that if Kennedy was elected, he would pass laws that would allow Catholics to eat meat on Friday, Muslims and Jews to eat pork, and Mormons to smoke and drink in front of each other.
