Well now, I do not agree that we "embrace" the furries of cold running down to -30 degrees. We cannot effect the cold so we do go on. But our teeth chatter too and our fingers go numb. We are more use to it than the frozen East Coast people but a brake would be nice. Our cars will not start either but we do know some tricks to try to help us get those cars starting. Some time yes and some time no.

I'll embrace winter when I start enjoying falling on the ice, flu season, getting dressed in the equivalent of a spacesuit to survive more than 10 minutes outdoors, traffic accidents, shoveling, ice dams, enormous energy bills, salt and sand tracked in on the floors, cancelled flights, frozen pipes, ice dams, and living like a mole in the dark for months at a time.

The winter wear we have in 2014 is really what makes this weather not affect your everyday living. Coldest since 1982? Remember what kind of winter jacket you wore in 1982? It sure wasn't a nice northface, or columbia that is made to take on -50 temp. This is why they call it Minnesnowta. If you don't like it. Move. There isn't a reason you can't move to a different state in 2014.

There are plenty of reasons to move besides the cold weather...mosquitos, taxes, and Dayton. Most of those leaving can handle the cold and mosquitos.

You embrace winter much like you embrace the flu...You just have to wait it out, endure the pain and depression, take some medicine, and wait...For months...And months...Then Spring comes! And three months later, the days get shorter and any day now...Flurries.

Puhleeze! While there are a handful of people out in this weather, the vast majority are indoors. Want proof? Visit any bar/restaurant Thursday-Saturday when daytime temps are in the 0-10F range. Public places are ghost towns during frigid weather. Quit patting yourselves on the back too hard. You're not Fairbanks or Winnipeg.
