There is only one word to descibe the judge's ruling. INSANE. The judge needs to be removed from the bench.

Great ruling. People need to be discouraged from this type of behavior. The guy played a role in bringing a child into the world & should be responsible.

what a ridiculous article. the guy is at fault for going about this in a less-than-formal manner. however, this judge is handling the whole thing inappropriately.

I'm thinking the mother is going to be more than willing to allow visitation rights. Ya sure, you betcha.

Only in Kansas - I hope. In 2021 Kansas will be celebrating 150 years of statehood - 50 years of progress.

So the mother filed for child support? Seems that was her intent all along. "I want to get a kid by whatever means I can, and by the way, I deserve child support too!" Wrong on so many levels.

No, the mother didn't file for child support. When this story first hit the news months ago, it said that the two mothers had hit severe financial problems - either they'd split up or got laid off - and had applied for welfare for the kid. When that happens, the state finds out who the biological father is, and if he's not living with the kid or paying child support, they go after him for the amount of welfare they pay out. It's intended to combat deadbeat dads. But unfortunately, since Kansas law says this guy doesn't meet the definition of a sperm donor, he's caught by it. The mother said publicly that he was nothing but a donor and she does not want him to be forced to support the kid.

Also, the judge is following the law. If he had ignored the law and ruled that the sperm donor is a special snowflake who also doesn't have to follow the law, then he would be an evil activist judge who is legislating from the bench. If you think the law is stupid, direct your scorn to the legislature, where the law was written and passed.

If he has to pay then he has full rights as a father.
