Elk River's Nate Prosser: From 'runt' to Wild scoring hero

  • Article by: MICHAEL RUSSO , Star Tribune

Whether it comes from a friend or just a random beer-leaguer who used to play pickup hockey at the Handke Pit, Nate Prosser hears this weekly: “Out of all the kids growing up in Elk River, I can’t believe you’re the one that made it.”

Hopefully Prosser can be on the ice and Spurgeon be in the press box.

Nice to see a good hometown kid doing good. Always liked watching him play in Sioux Falls.

He has worked hard with out complaining and just needed a chance to prove him self. When he gets ice time his numbers show the Wild do well.

I always liked Nate's game, hopefully he gets to stick around in the lineup the rest of the year when some of the injured guys get healthy. He sounds like a great guy off the ice too, way to go Nate!

This just shows, if you want something bad enough, go get it. No one will give it to you. Sometimes we need a break to show what we have, but then take advantage of the opportunity you have. (Prosser is getting a chance to show it because Spurgeon is out. Tom Brady is "Tom Brady" because Bledsoe got hurt.) I don't think many teens these days know how to deal with adversity. A little bump in the road comes along and many want to quit. Follow your dreams and if you want it bad enough, maybe it will happen.

Good story indeed. Let that be a lesson for all you SMALL kids with some smarts, skill, and love of the game. Don't give up!! It doesn't matter if you don't get picked for the elite AAA teams or play on a team that struggles. Puberty is the great equalizer and if you stick with it, YOU might be the next Nate Prosser.

Spurgeon is a top four D man on any team in the NHL. Poor mgalaforet is clueless when it come to hockey.

I feel bad for Prosser because the poor hometown kid has to play for the lowely Mild. What kid in his right mind would want to play for such a pitiful orgination? Hope Prosser becomes the victim of a Nick Leddy type trade so he makes it on to a championship caliber team.
