Why is it that the "party of fiscal responsibility" keeps showing up in the news for being fiscally irresponsible? Didn't know the term "fiscal conservative" and "I just invested half a million dollars into a business that ... helps parents choose the right camp" could co-exist, but I guess they can. I suppose if you've bilked taxpayers to the tune of $747,000, it makes sense you'd want less regulation...

Unfortunately, Cambridge and East Central Minnesota are a very conservative area, so I predict he survives this and is reelected easily.

This article goes at great lengths to find some hypocrisy in this guy being for government fiscal restraint and personally being a poor businessmen. He already has judgements against him for $30k to this camp association, so there probably is a story here of what went wrong, but clearly the Strib would rather try to call this guy a fraud then do any investigative journalism. Keeping in mind that filing a lawsuit is not evidence of anything, just allegations. I am not a fan of Sen Nienow, but his personal business failings and legal troubles have really nothing to do with his political party or political positions.

Right. Maybe the SBA misspoke when they stated he hadn't made a loan payment since 2010.

Oh please, not again. We, Republicans, make the worst business people. From Mr. Nienow to Mr. Emmer to Mr. Sutton. The list of failed Republican businessmen who turn to politics keeps getting longer.

It's actually a very succinct summary of the facts concerning this matter. And they are facts, not allegations. And while this matter does not have any connection to his political party, it is newsworthy because he is an elected official. This article would have been written in exactly the same way about a DFL State Senator who was in the same situation.
