Both Rick Spielman and the Wilfs determined they had seen enough in Mike Zimmer.

I really like this coach. I think the vikes hit the jackpot with coach Zimmer.I think he will work his butt off and from what he has said I think he pays attention to details. There are times to yell and others to praise a good job and I suspect he knows when they are.H e also is surrounding himself with good assistants so far and that is essential. He has the experience and that is crucial.I also think Spielman deserves some credit in that he is secure with himself and his position to hire this type of coach when all others were afraid.Go Vikings

Spielman-"I will still have the final say on everything." Could you please just excuse yourself from the room when it comes to making a decision on a QB and let your new coach and offensive coordinator make that call...

Spielman has now picked a coach. He claims final responsibility for personnel decisions. He can't really blame anyone but himself anymore. The best thing about the current situation is that when it goes bad we should finally get a new GM.

The NFL channel discussion mentioned that Zimmer may be a good coach and bad interview. That might explain why he was never picked though many people seem people think he should have been. Lets hope we found that diamond in the rough.

Zimmer mentioned that he had talked to Parcells twice one morning after he was named coach so we may have the benefit of Parcells advice too. I expect the Pacells connection was weighing heavily in the Wilf's agreement on Zimmer. And Parcells recent public comments make think he misses football again.

And in another bit of good news, one NFL channels mock draft had Blake Bortles falling to the Vikings at #8 after Manziel and Bridgewater were picked. After listening to a Derek Carr interview, I question whether his heart is really in the game.

Since Rick Spielman has been GM the Vikings have had two very good drafts and have now hired a very good head coach. I just hope that Zimmer is a better judge of both player talent and assistant coaching talent then Frazier was. The drafts that Frazier was in on probably involved his input on Chris Cook and Josh Robinson since he evaluated Cook as a defensive coordinator before the 2010 draft and he coached Robinson as a head coach in the Senior Bowl. We also know from seeing Frazier's final decisions that were put out on the football field that Frazier could not judge talent. That blame was being directed at Spielman by people who didn't know Frazier's influence. After the season Spielman stated that the final decision on who played rested with the head coach and you didn't see Frazier argue with that.

I also don't believe that any cornerback or quarterback who played under Frazier and his coaching staff ever played to his full potential. I think the evaluation of those players who play those positions on this current Vikings roster will need to be fully evaluated by a competent staff before free agency and the draft if those two positions are going to improve. The quarterback position and the cornerback were not going to improve under Frazer, Musgrave, and Williams. I have high hopes that things will change under the new coaching staff of the Vikings.

Let's face it: Frazier is not a head coach material just as Ponder is not a NFL starting QB. Mediocrity embraces mediocrity. End of story.

I really do think the vikings got it right this time! Head coach is most important guy of all. Yes people even more than adrian lol. Stay with this guy awhile please. He is going to turn this thing around. Hopefully Spielman doesnt get in the way. This guy is a whiz im reading all over the place when it comes to getting the most out of people. To quote the movie on deadly ground: "He's the kind of guy that would drink a gallon of gasoline so he could **** in your campfire! You could drop this guy off at the Arctic Circle wearing a pair of bikini underwear, without his toothbrush, and tomorrow afternoon he's going to show up at your pool side with a million dollar smile and fist full of pesos."
