I grew up in a house built in 1885. It made creepy noises that I thought were due to the house settling. My brothers and sisters claimed it was haunted and had stories with elaborate details about hearing heavy footsteps upstairs and the TV volume going up and down when no one else was home and they weren't touching the remote control. How could I not notice there were ghosts when everyone else did?

The house my wife grew up in was haunted. Frankly it added to the old pile's charm. Perhaps we should all be so lucky to have a home with real character.
