Maybe we should just give the entire American population random drug tests. Then we could all be Americans proud to pee in a cup. Not to mention that drug testing companies would make a fortune.

What, on Earth, is the point? Studies aren't mixed - they suggest it's a very bad idea that does nothing to curb drug abuse. If I was a parent in the Duluth district, my primary goal would be removing the administrators who even suggest this awful invasion of my children's privacy is a good idea.

This is an expensive invasion of privacy that doesn't really fix the problem. There are much better places for the school district to invest its resources.

In the mid 1990's I competed in the Minnesota Natural Bodybuilding contest. Of the dozens and dozens of competitors they did a random drug test on 5 of us. I was one who was chosen. I am 5' 6" tall and weighed in for the show at a very ripped 135 lbs. Not chosen at random for the test were numerous individuals who weighed 180 - 200+ lbs and who looked like they had been off steroids for about 3 days. I do not think that this will work...

I"d rather see drug tests for teachers, staff and school board members.

Go ahead! Test any kid you want! So long as you go get a search warrant first. :) Which, oh btw, a school can't get because they don't have the jurisdiction to conduct searches in the first place. Drug test the people that came up with this idea, they are the ones that must be on them to ever think this is a good idea.

I'd never allow my kids to be randomly tested for drugs...horrible idea.

Start drug testing the cops and politicians first!

This is more about getting rid of kids who we would rather not have around than trying to help these kids. Expel them from my school and make them another districts problem. It is also interesting that the focus becomes the illegal drugs when alcohol does more damage the young people and their families than all the illegal drugs combined.
