NEW YORK — The price to board an airliner in the United States has risen for the fourth straight year, making it increasingly expensive to fly almost anywhere.

While I don't like the additional fees, especially change fees, I'd rather pay the fees only when I need them than have each and every flight cost 58% more to offset the increased cost of fuel.

I would pay twice the going rate to travel in a plane with decent leg room in coach. As it is we avoid flying unless we can snag business class or above because it is just so annoying and uncomfortable otherwise. I wish the flying public would organize and go on strike against the airlines until we get some of our basic human needs met.

The airlines raised their fares because fuel was going up and it cost them more. But now fuel is going down; why aren't they lowering fares? Not only are they not lowering fares, they're STILL raising the rates. People will start to find another way to travel, then the airlines will raise prices again because they won't have enough customers for them to make any money. And NO ONE will cry for the airlines.

Be a use airlines are still paying higher fuel prices due to hedging. Cease in 08 and 09 forecast analysis didn't see any price reduction.
