Mike Caron, a spokesman for Tiller, expressed regret over the leaking berm soon after it occurred “This is the last thing we’d ever want to happen at any of our facilities,” he said at the time.......................................................................................................right, but you didn't report it and were lying about the size of your operation.

That's the problem with corporate mining and pipelines (and the oil companies in general), they expect us to grant them permission to pollute our environment and then also expect us to pay for the externalities like infrastructure and environmental cleanup. 80k fine? Think they even care? Think it's an disincentive for future malfeasance?

“Wisconsin will continue to ensure our high quality rivers and streams are protected, and operators will be required to adhere to the laws and regulations designed to prevent pollution of our natural resources,” said Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen.. . . . . . . . . Mr. AG your DNR's lack of preventative action is speaking louder than your nice words.

A little money, $80,000 is barely a slap on the wrist, will restore the St.Croix to it pristine condition and solve everything, right?

This is absolutely despicable. These were the warnings well before they were allowed to mine sand. The fines are just a MINOR cost of doing "business." I'm sure there isn't too much regret. The St. Croix River is part of the national park system, and all they get for polluting it is paltry fine of $80,000!? But, thanks for the deep regret, Mr. Caron.
