FCC member probes hotels following Texas girl's struggle to dial 911 during mother's death

DALLAS — A Texas grandfather's initiative to allow hotel guests to dial 911 without having to press 9 first — spurred by his granddaughter's inability to call for help when her mother was stabbed to death — has prompted a federal official to reach out to major hotels.

GLAD this is being looked at. Dialing 9 first doesn't come naturally to children, foreign guest or somebody in a panic.

It's not always 9 to get an outside line. Each phone should show how to dial 911. For example: 7911.
