Attitude Adjuster: Mike Zimmer brings new approach to Vikings

  • Article by: Master Tesfatsion , Star Tribune

By hiring Mike Zimmer, the Vikings picked a coach who will bring verbal intensity and, yes, curse words — an approach unlike his predecessor’s.

Hopefully it works out. I think all Viking fans can only hope that they have hired a guy that can be here for many years. Good luck Coach Zimmer!

i'm not excited about the screaming but if his players dont care...i do however look forward to an aggressive defense.

I can't remember which game it was, but I definitely recall several defensive players saying that Alan Williams laying into them over halftime fired them up. Hopefully Zimmer's approach is just what these guys need.

Yup, uncontrollable cursing is a definite requirement for a coach. NOT!!! We don't need a repeat of the Jerry Burns approach. Remember how that turned out?

DufferHJan. 16, 14 2:22 AM

For the record, under Burns the Vikings only won the Central Division once.

Good luck coach, I assume it took the first 3 years to get the horses in the stable for the D to get where it got. Hopefully we already have a few in the barn and he doesn't get hamstruck by the GM.

He is going to make Ponder cry. Almost feel bad for CP...

Really, as MN fans, we should be pissed off with this hiring and the owners should be ashamed for not doing their homework, especially if Norv Turner ends up on the coaching staff. Didn't Zimmer and Turner get their start when Jimmy Johnson made the Hershel Walker Trade for the Cowboys when Mn gave up first round picks in 1990,1991, 1993, our second round picks from 1990 through 1992, our 3rd round picks in 1992 and a 6th round pick in 1990, made the COWBOYS AMERICAS TEAM and handed the Cowboys Championships in 1992, 1993 & 1995 and put the Zim and Norv on the map. Being a VIKINGS fan my whole life, I am going to be a PACKERS fan. Well, unless of course the Zim and Norv can turn this franchise around and be Super Bowl winners at least 4 times. They already owe us 3 for being on the Cowboys staff during the easy years!!!!!!

Awesome Hire!! People who have never played organized football do not understand the yelling aspect of the game. He is not yelling to belittle the guys, he is yelling because of his passion for the game. My coach was level headed and would yell when we needed it, or as he would say, "Where's the Enthusiasm Boys? Get Fired up!" There is an intensity that we have been missing here, the piece that puts you over the edge. This isn't Chili, this isn't Steckel, nor Tice, Leslie was a great D-Cord, but when it came to being the guy that you have to get the players to fear, he could not bring himself to it. No non-sense, no bs, its my way or you ride the bench. Welcome Coach....Skol Vikings!

I wish him luck, but I heard the same enthusiasm from fans when rookie head coach Childress was hired and rookie head coach Frazier was hired. So far he hasn't coached a single game and no one knows if he will be successful. All I know is the previous 2 rookie head coaches were not.
