For fans, Vikings' move to TCF Bank Stadium will have pros and cons

  • Article by: Rochelle Olson , Star Tribune

The food will be better, the restrooms plentiful, the views unobstructed, and the team potentially improved when the Minnesota Vikings play the first of two seasons at the University of Minnesota’s football stadium in 2014.

"The Metrodome capacity was 64,000 and TCF Bank Stadium’s capacity is 51,000. The Vikings have 11,000 season ticket-holders that account for 54,000 seats. So if everyone renews, there will be very few single game tickets". No, if everyone renews, there will be -3,000 single game tickets. Yet another Strib writer who failed math???

Looking forward to watching them on my couch, as long as Ponder is not playing QB.

Said it before, will not spend another nickel on this team until they either make the playoffs or Rick Spielman is fired. Since the later is not likely to happen soon, I sure hope the Vikings make the playoffs next season.

My "comparable" tickets went up 25% and payment is due before they will tell me how big a gouge they will apply for comparable seats at the new stadium... this season ticket holder is done. I really don't want to keep paying in to see how big a shaft they are give me.

"Anderson said the team sought the fairest, most equitable process for seating at TCF Bank Stadium..." Apparently they decided that the fairest, most equitable process was to raise the ticket prices by 25%. That will help weed out the current riff-raff and make seats available for the "true fans".

@johnmpls - TCF Bank Stadium on wiki says 50,850 is seating capacity and Strib probably rounded up. Though if you look at the map there are some added sections behind where the open end is so there will be more seats there and probably more than the 3,000 they are short. @kronosmn - remember last year you had one less ticket for the London game so that was 10% less than normal. That said with fewer seats some will be bumped around.

Yikes, pretty spendy for a majority of "seats" that are in all actuality a bench. And as another commentor pointed out, how does that work if all the season ticket holders, 54,000, renew when there are only 51,000 seats? Are they saying 3,000 people will have to sit on someone's lap? That could get weird.

Seriously, all that the state & fans have done for this team and they decide now is the time to raise prices??? When does it stop? I am so done with this team. Not worth the money and wasted time on Sunday afternoons anymore.

The Vikings will not pack TCF the next two season, no worries on tickets.

This doesn't include any civic impact fee that the legislature imposes on the ticket price, or any development impact zone fees the city does. I'm thinking like 200% sounds about right.
