Let's see, the Bengals defense couldn't stop the Chargers at all....I know, we should hire Zimmer.

jimbo92107Jan. 10, 1412:12 AM

I hear Zimmer is a good cusser. My knowledge of the other candidates is less detailed.

sdvikingsJan. 10, 1412:22 AM

Please, no hothead in Zimmer. We need someone who is steady and somewhat fiery, but mostly, a good X's and O's guy. I can imagine Zimmer coming in and just alienating half the players and people in the front office. Just say no. I'm guessing him being the top candidate for the Vikings is agent speak leveraging his interview with Tennessee.

I can tell Vikings fans that dozens of Bengal fans I've seen comment on other sites or talked to are afraid of losing him. I continuously see "take Lewis or Gruden but not Zimmer." Reminds me of Mike Tomlin leaving to the Steelers.

After Chilly and Frazier it would be nice to see anybody with someone with some emotion on the sidelines and Zimmer will bring that.

And if you look at "history" it is not always the head coach that is the one responsible for failure and blunders; it's his staff. Where did we rank in offense and defense this year, and how happy were you with the west coast/ tampa 2? Now, maybe Frazier instigated and refused to change, but the assistant coaches were also in a fog and in denial most of the year..... and the best Frazier could do, is state that phrase; you know the one "we've got some things to work on this week." Hire who you want as a head coach, but the first thing I would ask all the prospects is, who would you bring in as your assistants? And personally, I have had enough of "brain trust" candidates and would like to see coaches who have been there/ done that.....

A good GM would have had the list narrowed to 2 or 3 before he fired Frazier but then what can you expect from a GM that should have been the first one fired.

For those of you who feel the Vikings need a fiery coach that cusses, I don't think it wins games. Two of my favorite coaches were Bud Grant and Tony Dungy. Neither of these guys came across as fiery. I know Grant was a fierce competitor as a player, but came across as a quiet "my way or the highway," coach. I think I read that Dungy did not allow swearing on the practice field. He developed Tampa for Gruden, and won with the Colts.

u4775Jan. 10, 14 6:44 AM

Well at least we dodged the Gruden bullet. I too have my doubts about coaches who chastise players, but it really depends on what they are saying to them. Are they criticizing them or their actions. It was reported that players follow Zimmer and respect him. We may find out firsthand if that is true, as Parcell's public endorsement probably goes a long way. And there are worst endorsements to have. I know he looks like a coach, but is he one or does he play one on TV is the question?

WaterBunkerJan. 10, 14 6:48 AM

U4775: Parcells doesn't give a hoot about the Vikings. He is trying to help a friend. I do not think his endorsement "goes a long way". It's worthless to a Viking fan.
