Family obtains feeding and breathing tubes for Calif. girl declared 'brain dead'

OAKLAND, Calif. — The family of a 13-year-old California girl who was declared brain dead after suffering complications from sleep apnea surgery has gotten her the feeding and breathing tubes that they had been fighting for.

Feeding what? If there is no nervous system, how can any of that food get anywhere?

Or so they say. They haven't released any pictures, no doctor has come forward to confirm. I saw a picture of her hand from 12/31 on her sister's instagram page. The ends of her fingers were already sloughing skin and the end of one finger appeared to be missing. It was gruesome already. If she's "improving", then why no visual confirmation of that?

This entire case is so sad. Clearly the family is not ready to accept the diagnosis that has been confirmed by the physicians at Children's Hospital. Nothing about this situation is going to change an unfortunate surgical outcome. I hope that the family gets some comfort from the recent developments, but this child isn't going to recover. What a sad use of resources. What a sad situation. I mean it.
