Ghosts of restaurants past

It’s such a downer of a sight: The forlorn remains of what had been an influential, one-of-a-kind restaurant. Where landmark restaurants once thrived, empty or underused real estate remains, turning a prime location into a haunted address.

Really fun article. Thanks. Those were all such great places. It's amazing how strong the food is in the Twin Cities now, and we all owe a debt of gratitude to all those resteraunteurs and chefs in the article who dragged us into the 21st century.

Can we please move on from adoring everything D'Amico? Average at best. Certainly not worthy of the praise heaped on them these many years.

NFC was so marvelous. I can still recall a meal I had there in,oh, maybe 1979--a seafood salad with a creamy sauce that came in a little white pitcher. And the bread! Vincent's is the current version of that, I guess. Rick, thanks for this story.

As we age my pals and I often ask each other questions like, "What was that bar where the Fed Reserve is where Wendy's band played?" I love this memory walk and would love to see more!

OldVinnie--do you mean places like Charlie's and Harry's? Or does your memory go back even further? Name names, man!

I went into the "new" Forum to look at it, and while the decor was the same, the whole ambiance was different. The Forum was where you went to get plain food (meat loaf, mac and cheese, apple pie) served cafeteria style, not a place where the entrees started at $20.

Seems like Charlie's Cafe Exceptionale should have been in this list.
