Confusion resonates for same-sex Utah couples as legal landscape continues to shift

SALT LAKE CITY — Michael Mathie proposed to his partner Tyler McCraley on Christmas and obtained a marriage license the next day. They made plans for a wedding but couldn't carry through with it because the Supreme Court put same-sex marriage on hold before they could tie the knot.

Never have I heard of a retroactive change in the law. These people were legally married under the law since October - how on earth is it constitutional to take back that which was legal until a hold was put on continuing the law????
