I always find it ridiculous when I go to a state park in the winter to hike and guess what, there are no trails to do that since they are all designated as x-country ski! You literally have to bush whack to hike at all.

Davidarnold, there are many winter hiking trails at the MN State Parks, you just need a pair of snow shoes which many of the parks rent.

Paying $115 for the season for the full park system in three areas is a pittance to the $100/Day I pay when I go downhill skiing in Colorado. I've been paying multiple season passes for years and feel like I always get a great value here in Minnesota for cross country.

227,000? 1 out of 24 Minnesotans? Maybe in the younger crowd, or if you count those who have skied sometime in the past, but I doubt that number. No proof, just a caca sensor. Bill G.

It would be nice if the reporter actually did some digging and found out how much the government entities mentioned spent grooming ski trails. Bill G.

While $115 may seem like a lot, look at it this way- if a government worker is grooming the trail, the labor, benefits, and equipment cost can easily be $100 bucks an hour. There are many miles of trails, and they need grooming multiple times annually. You can chew up that $115 in a hurry. Bill G.

Skiing those trails is akin to 'driving' on the freeway during rush hour. I call it plodding.

I hope city skiers realize what a bargain they have! I live in a cold and snowy, yet non-Nordic part of the state where there are no municipal trails. Because we have given up asking the local units of government to help, I spend hundreds a year, in addition to my $5k initial investment in gear, maintaining a small, unlit trail, . (This is why I am so testy about trespassing snowmobilers; the damage they cause comes out of my pocket and no one else's)

$115 for way over three different parks for unlimited skiing. Who is complaining? Probably not the xc skiers, as we know what a great deal it is. Try skiing downhill for $115 for just three times. I gladly pay my xc ski pass each year, as it is a great deal for what I get, groomed trail skiing at state parks and the gateway trail.
