New sewer pipes will cross the Mississippi River at Fridley

Work is proceeding on two 650-foot pipes that will replace a pair of 42-year-old iron ones.

>" Banken said the pipes will be pulled and pushed into the trench by three backhoes: one each on the bank, the causeway and a barge".< Assuming there are two river banks, I could four backhoes. >" The pipes will float despite carrying about 30 collars, each weighing almost 5 tons,"< That's about 150 tons of steel hanging onto these pipes, are we sure they will still float?
