Back in the late 1970s my older brother used this trick to warm up his 1968 Cougar which was parked along the snowbound curb in East St. Paul. He slid a full pan of red hot charcoal under the oil pan and ran half-frozen into the house to wait for it to do its magic. Later on my dad told him to look outside, his car was on fire. Apparently the thick layer of engine oil that had leaked over the years had started burning. The fire department was called followed by a tow truck which pulled it to a junkyard.
