Sounds like Zimmer is the likely hire later this week.Wow what a change and boy do I like that pick. Then hire the browns defensive coordinator as ours and are defense is on it's way.

zimmer seems like the one hot candidate that seems to really be interested in coming here. If we can get him lets get it done don't let him getaway.

I saw former Lions HC Wayne Fontes at the MSP Airport today. He seemed very giddy, and was wearing a Vikings hat!

Zimmer interesting, but why he has not been hired as yet, having interviewed for MANY head coaching vacancies, as and cbs sports notes, makes one wonder. Gruden is terrible - worst possible choice - devises schemes and calls plays just like Childo. Bengals fans want him gone from their team.

Fontes is old as dirt, if he was in town it was probably to seek out some advice on coaches, especially about Gruden.

The ONLY reason Zimmer hasn't been hired hitherto is because he speaks his mind (do an online search of "Mike Zimmer Bobby Petrino" to see what I mean). Moreover, like Belichick, Zimmer hates talking to the media, he scoffs at it really. Well, the media doesn't like it much when coaches refuse to keep them apprised of every little detail (again, refer to how the media disdain Belichick's tight lips). In this day and age where a head coach is the face of the franchise, owners prefer coaches to be "media friendly" and not "controversial. You would still have to find a pretty established offensive coordinator, though, if you went that route which is why I think Spielman prefers Whisenhunt... which wouldn't be bad either (look at what he did for Phillip Rivers this year). Gruden, on the other hand, is over-rated.

Les Steckel would be good, his QB could be Spergeon Wynn. Unstoppable!

With Whisenhunt likely going to the Lions (with Stafford, Bush and Johnson- can you blame him?), we should be setting our sights on Mike Zimmer. He's a good coach with a strong personality (watch Hard Knocks from this past summer) who can help light a fire under this teams butt. He would likely be able to bring in great coordinators around him due to his experience, and his hire would be a great first step in fixing this organization. Bevell, Gruden and Gase are more offensive minded yes, but these guys seem to be quite overrated when you look at the output of their offenses (Bevell being a bust in MN unless Favre was our quarterback, Gruden struggling to help Dalton evolve and having big issues with play calling, and Gase having some guy named Peyton Manning), but I think Zimmer or Jack Del Rio are really the safest and best options. I'm glad we are taking our time with this process, just as long as we don't wait TOO long.

Loved the comment about going to a three/four defense. That would mean four capable linebackers and some capable back ups.... Now, take a look at the vikings' linebacker corp right now..... It would have to be one hellacious linebacker draft!

All the names I am hearing will be nothing more than Spielman puppets. He wants someone that can CONTROL the locker room. Yeah...who cares about winning games, we need more control of the players. FIRE SPIELMAN!!!
