Would Vikings fans settle for a quarterback like Andy Dalton, who plays well — until the playoffs.

No, Dalton is not "better than average", he is below average but has a way above average collection of receivers and tight ends. The biggest problem with Dalton is that like Ponder (who has myriad other problems), he has a weak arm.

Mike Mayock called Kaepernick at the combine dead on.

Consistently inconsistent. I think I read that this last season he was 5th in interceptions. He overthrows a lot and by a lot.

Tim Tebow has more playoff wins than Andy Dalton. His qb rating in 3 playoff games - 67.0, 51.4 and 44.7. Dalton's much better than Ponder but no franchise QB.

The "franchise" QB is the most elusive of all positions. For every Payton Manning or Brees or Brady you've got 20-25 Romos or Daltons. To me the real head scratchers are the Eli Mannings or Rothlesbergers or even Flaccos. The ones who can turn it on in the playoffs.

I'd be happy with Dalton under center for the Vikings. He has achieved a lot in his first years compared to Ponderossa. I'd like to think the Vikings could surround him with more playmakers and a better line. Outside of AJ Green, the Bengals lack a true #2 receiver and their tightends are barely above average. Remember, of the 32 QB's in the league only 16 make the playoffs, and only 1 wins the title. you can win the bowl without a 5star QB. Tough D wins the big game imo.

Ryan Mallett was the best QB in that draft very few realize this because Belichick is hiding him behind Tom Brady.

Belichick hid another superstar till he was outed. Name is Matt Cassell. Mallett is no superstar. He is an average quarterback.

Perhaps we want a Philip Rivers or a Mark Sanchez, brilliant one game, petulant the next.
