Bud Grant, in his new book, "I did it My Way," made same comment about changing the point-after rule, among other suggested changes to current NFL rules. His book is a greast read, by the way.

Does anyone really believe that if you put Kaepernick behind center of the MN Vikings that this would have been a playoff season? The Vikings have holes EVERY-WHERE.

I agree with altering the point-after rule. As it currently stands, teams have a 98% chance of successfully kicking a PAT. It just leads to an extra commercial and is a waste of time.

Is there 1 Viking fan out there that would complain about a Bevell - Manziel led team for next year???It makes perfect sense. If it didn't work NO ONE would complain because Bevell has done a great job with Farve and Wilson and Manziel is Manziel. He has the "it" factor that the Vikings need in the worst way. JUST DO IT!!!

Jim, could this be the beginning of jottings 2.0? Anyway the one about BillyB intrigues me on account the NFL will never favor that due to the fact that it is one more play where collision force is exerted and in this new sissified era of protection the protaganistas will always have the edge in framing the narrative of good-v-evil. Maybe what he should be preposing is that a TD is worth 7 points, no field goal attempts from less than 55 yards and yes you can use other players to jump from ala Matt Blair/Joe Sensor. No kick returns just put the ball on the 5 yd line and 5 0n 5 punt returns.

small qb, big hit? i see rg3 is doing great.

Jim - the reason kickers SHOULD determine the result of games is because its called FOOTball. Change the name and then you can change the rules. Smotherman Vortex?

Thanks for getting in your usual U of M insults, Jimmy Boy. Some people prefer college sports to the "go through the motions until the last 5 minutes" NBA or the No Fun League. Glen Mason for Gopher's coach, anyone?

CoynerJan. 6, 1410:06 AM

Proof you shouldn't believe everything you read in the newspaper... Sid's Headline on Page C3: Pitino, Gophers exceed expectations! "Nobody expected Minnesota to boast of a 12-3 record at this point." Souhan's view on C4: "The Gophers failed to beat an injured Michigan team and almost blew a big lead against a lousy Purdue team. Time for Richard Pitino to look up Clem Haskins' quotes about how winning the NIT counted as a national championship." Glass half full or glass half empty?

jaytee1Jan. 6, 1411:07 AM

Jim, please leave the Gophers reporting to Amelia Rayno who actually takes her job seriously and writes with consistent knowledge and quality. When she is critical of the team, you take it seriously because she is working the beat and not phoning in lazy off the cuff columns and bullet points.
