Many critics picked the U to finish near the bottom of the Big Ten, but the team is 12-3 after its first league win.

Since Sid has all the statistics I thought this was a good place to make this note. The latest RPI rankings for football are out and because Michigan State won and moved up, the Gophers ended up 31st in the nation; but what is unique is that they leaped over Iowa and Nebraska; therefore overall, they ranked 4th in the Big Ten with only Mich St, Ohio State and Wisconsin ahead of them. Good job Gophers. I am very proud of how they played for the year. The only game they were not competitive in all year was Michigan, and even that was close until 2 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter. With a little better passing game; they could move up the food chain even a little more. Having MI and OH State on the schedule does not help; but maybe none in the Big ten are that great.

It is all relevant. Depends on what your expectations are. In Minnesota, they are always low.

"unjustly fired". Get over it Sid. OTS showed that he was not developing players and it got worse each year. Tubby was fired because his players didn't improve.

Come on Sid, even you can see that the Gophers are much sharper and playing with more hustle and desire than with Tubby. Sid...the kids never improved under Tubby. Your constant and never ending support for local coaches when not deserved is becoming very old. I appreciate your loyalty, but as a journalist, you are supposed to be somewhat objective and at that, you fail big time! Richard Pitino is taking this team in the right direction and will reach a level of success we could have only dreamt about with Tubby.

if offensive line coach Jeff Davidson is so good, why is the vikings pass blocking so crappy?

Sid, the firing Tubby was the best thing that has happened to the Gopher BB program in years. This year with the easy non conference schedule, everyone expected them to be 12-3 at this stage. They will have a rough Big Ten season the not make the Big Dance. But I do expect great things for the future as Richard can bring in his own players. A coaching change was a great thing for the program!

Pitono maximizing every shred of talent on this team. When he gets his own recruits this will be a team to be reckoned with. Great job Norwood bringing in a coach with fire in his belly and plays a style that's entertaining.

"even though the Gophers didn’t play a strong preseason schedule - second toughest SOS in he Big Ten by a good margin, and a markedly tougher SOS than 6 of the top ten AP or Coaches polls in the country -- 56th out of 350. Do a little fact checking before making foolish statements.
