Frostbite, dead car batteries: Experts warn of the dangers caused by record-breaking cold

Also, underinflated or flat car tires. You lose 1-2 pounds for every 10 degrees and if you haven't checked them in awhile they could be trouble. Believe it or not, a good bicycle pump and about 50 strokes per tire can make the difference, so get to it now. Many gas station air pumps DO NOT WORK at these low temps, so know where your best source is. All from recent experience.

Choose your electric space heaters wisely. I find that the oil-filled radiant electric space heater are very safe. Use them on a low setting and give them time to warm the space. Open coil electic heaters are dangerous when left unattended.
