Record breaking low temperatures settle into Wisconsin

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The deep freeze in Wisconsin is breaking records, even before the coldest air of the season arrives next week.

I think the report of the record low of -18 in Green Bay is quite misleading. According to weather.com -- "The lowest recorded temperature was -36°F in 1888." I grew up in Wisconsin and can remember -20 being a typical cold winter day south of Madison in the 1950s, so I had serious doubts about the accuracy of this report, which occurs in the Star-Tribune and elsewhere.
