-15F for a high temp in the metro on Monday? LOL! Sounds like a great place to live. No wonder the only migration into the metro is from the Dakota's, Iowa, and outstate MN.

For all those attending the global warming rally scheduled for this coming Monday at the State Capitol, it has been postponed due to the cold weather.

"There is almost nothing positive about the weather Thursday morning in Minnesota." .............. Depends on how you look at it. You don't have to shovel or plow cold, and arctic high-pressure systems (which this cold is, basically) rarely contain the chance of significant snow. Even aside from the lessened chance of snow, driving on ice is better in the cold too: an ice-covered road or spot is far less slippery in subzero conditions than when just above or below freezing, when tire friction readily creates a film of water on which vehicles slide. Less chance of communicable disease when it's cold too--stuff like flu thrives in November and February-March: times when it's more apt to be warmer, snowier and sloppier. And finally, who can resist the beauty of perfectly white snow covering the ground and capping evergreens, sharp sunlight, and a deep blue, cloudless sky--all of which fills owatonnabill's window even as he writes this? Owatonnabill begs to differ with you, Mr. Walsh. There is a LOT positive about this Thursday morning in Minnesota.

"The cold weather keeps out the riff-raff". I want to be one of the riff-raff!! I remember Feb 1996 - throwing a cup of water into the minus 32 degree air and watching it vaporize. Trying to start my beater car with a stuck carburetor. Trying to get our dog to go out to the bathroom. 24 years living here and this might be the winter that chases us out of here. Heavy snow in April-May 2013, 2 huge blizzards in 2010-11 winter, including one that collapsed the Dome roof. Winters are getting stormier and colder, NOT warmer....

I curse my ancestors for ever settling in this God-forsaken frozen wasteland.

I feel bad for the deer up north. We have not had an extended cold snap like this so soon in the year in a long time. And there are four months to go yet. Sadly, many more than usual will starve to death this winter. Or be easy pickings for the wolves.

"Even aside from the lessened chance of snow, driving on ice is better in the cold too." Really? I was in town for the holidays. Due to that dusting of snow on NYE, a friend's 30 minute commute turned into 2 hours. As for one of your other comments, And finally, who can resist the beauty of perfectly white snow covering the ground." Unless you're in the Rockies or Sierra's, snow makes everything looks as bland as Iowa.

@raineyroo. C'mon, man. Every single article about weather has you trolling the comments. I need to know why you care so much about our weather? How do you have the time and energy to continuously comment for years about how much better your weather is in Atlanta and San Diego? Seriously, you need to stop it.

@bh1963. How soon you forget the winter of 2012, where it was warmer most days in January than San Francisco.
