Tom Edwards grew up in a family that's been cutting trees and hauling timber in the Pacific Northwest for more than a century. The Spanaway, Wash., resident says he has worked as a logger since he was a kid — it's just what an able-bodied youngster was expected to do.

from the article: "Boudreaux said he opened his net shop in 1980 and has also been a part of a family boat-making business since 1981. He said he invested thousands into IRAs that today are worth very little." How could that be, with the stock market at all time highs? Does not make sense to me.

People shouldn't be allowed to retire just because they can. Everyone should be working until they physically or mentally can't any longer. Period.

Why is it that people in all other industrialized countries don't have this problem? I know pensions are mandatory in Germany. Public health care guarantees that a single catastrophic illness won't wipe you out financially. It's ridiculous that we can expect a carpenter or plumber or laborer to do those jobs in their 60's and 70's -- it's just not physically possible for most. Where did we, the US, go so far off the road compared to everybody else?

GOP Trickle Down Economics at work. The only thing that trickles down is poverty!-----------This is Trickle UP poverty at it's best. Bring in as many low skilled workers as you can in order to buy votes and this is what you get. Thanks dems for keeping our wages low. And, you do realize that Obama is the ONLY president in history to have wages actually go down during his term. Of course he is the president with the lowest GDP growth in the history of our county also.

This is Trickle UP poverty at it's best. ============================================ Hilarious if the statement wasn't so foolish. The rich have NEVER been richer EVER! And the balance of wealth never been more skewed to the top. It's the right wing working to destroy wages and the middle class all the way. And they laugh at the sheeple that vote for them against their own interests!
