Reusse: Short term, Vikings job isn't that attractive

  • Article by: PATRICK REUSSE , Star Tribune

There were six openings after the early hours of the NFL’s annual bushwhacking of head coaches took place Monday morning. Only one job among those half-dozen could be rated as less attractive than becoming the Vikings’ ninth head coach as they enter a 54th season.

Patrick, we can start cleaning house with new honest ownership. Am I allowed to state that, Trib?

NDSU's Craig Bohl didn't even want the job.

There is no logical reason to keep a head coach with a 21-32-1 record. Not one. Stop it with the sentimentality and the "aw, give him a chance" malarkey. Do results matter or not?

Just don't worry, you all, because Rick Spielman has promised us that he has 13 different herbs and spices to make a finger lickin good football coach. Wait, what are you saying? It it was only 11 herbs and spices for chicken? Wait, what are you saying? It's 13 different types of coaches Rick is studying to hire, with different herbs and spices? Wait, what are you saying? He has 13 criteria to judge coaches, part of which involves the Wunderlich test, with fractions of scoring down to the hundreths? Rick has organized a clusterbleep, and gotten the Wilfs to buy into his madness, or idiocy.

Jay Gruden would be a great hire here I think, he is doing a great job at running Cincy's Offense and developing Dalton, give him a chance

Vike's job more attractive than Cleveland and Washington (no draft picks). There's also a shiny stadium on the horizon that needs to sell $10,000 club seats. That will motivate Zygi to pay huge bucks to find the best coach that will energize the fan base. Add Patterson and Peterson on offense and a young coordinator may get excited if he can develop a new QB from the draft.

The Vikes are not an attractive prospect for a new coach for 2 reasons - Spielman and the Wilf's. Who in his right mind wants to work for them?

Um… at the time of the Freeman signing, the NFL gossip columnists insisted that Spielman wanted Freeman and Frazier was against the idea, not the other way around. It’s too bad, really, ‘cuz I genuinely enjoy Reusse’s articles when he reminisces, but when it come to contemporary stories about the Vikings, he’s lost it.

Debbie Downer aka (REUSSE), thanks for the help trying to land a great coach for the Vikings. Negativity from the press is a sure fire way to get some good talent interested in the job said no one ever. We have some good talent, decent draft pick and can move up if needed, plus the new stadium on the horizon. If the Wilf's open up the check book, there will be plenty of interest in a long term contract.

Joe Lombardi, 43-year old quarterbacks coach for the New Orleans Saints, would be a great fit for this job.
